AMIS
Happy Artist Spotlight!
Starlight Art Consultancy presents AMIS who is a New York based artist originally from China. He has lived and worked over ten years in the United States. AMIS mostly works with oils and he holds a MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. His works have showed worldwide including China, New York, Wisconsin, and Georgia.
AMIS’s work is strongly related to repetition and seriality, which can be understood in terms of his penchant for visual effect of patterns and textures which play out on a singular subject motif involving footwear.
AMIS’s work is not just the simple reproduction of a subject; through the manipulation of paint he investigate volume, shape and space while abstracting the images from his source photographs, engaging with historic traditions of abstraction and representation. His sculptural application process intensifies the lines, contours, colors, shapes, and textures, transforming the image into an investigation of paint.
This unified body of work is imbued with deeper implications by using the shoe as a metaphor for the individual. The shoe represents the individuality of the wearer, and references issues of choice, desire, consumption, and pleasure.
