About the Artist
My work explores not only the beauty of nature but of people who appear to be looking right through you. The images of nature are lonely and still and those images of people tend to show emotion with a direct view into their life at that moment in their eyes. Heavily inspired by photographer Nan Goldin, my favorite images to produce are of what is and who is around me living real life, which sometimes mirrors the sadness that engulfs many of us. I’m fascinated by the polarity of nature images to the portrait images and this can be seen in my newly published book titled, Abstracted Distractions: teetering between here and gone which showcases images from the past twenty years. (Due out this year!) Kimberly will be starting her new photography project entitled Hints of Happiness which will explore mental health through portraiture. This project will take her to 5 different national and international artist residencies in 2023 with the expectation to exhibit this body of work in the future.

Artist Biography
Kimberly Flynn (born in Cambridge, MA, 1985) began photographing at the age of sixteen when she used her first paycheck from the local movie theater to purchase a 35 mm film camera, a Canon EOS Rebel G. A camera that never left her side the rest of high school to which she was compelled to document everything from nature to the people in her life at the time. As life progressed so did the need to provide a living and take care of others and while photography may have taken a backseat she always found her way back to it. Kimberly has produced a book titled, Abstracted Distractions: teetering between here and gone which showcases images from the past twenty years. (Due out this year!)
Kimberly is the founder of Starlight Art Consultancy where she is a leader whose goal is to inspire artists to see their full potential and put it to use. She wants every creator to realize that they already have everything they need inside of them to thrive as an artist.
Originally from the New England area, Kimberly relocated to mossy Savannah, Georgia five years ago and couldn't have asked for a more welcoming place to call home. As someone with over 15 years of art and business experience, she offers artists helpful tools that give their art business both heart and structure and is also the author of Businify Your Art Life. Kimberly serves as board treasurer for local art non-profit ARTS Southeast whose mission is to make Savannah a destination for art and culture in the Southeast by supporting established and emerging artists and engaging a diverse community with creative programming by developing awareness and appreciation of the arts.
Kimberly will be starting her new photography project entitled Hints of Happiness which will explore mental health through portraiture. This project will take her to 5 different national and international artist residencies in 2023 with the expectation to exhibit this body of work in the future.

New Project! Hints of Happiness
As someone who is an avid lucid dreamer, I had a dream and when I became lucid I was thinking about how I needed to write a memoir called, Hints of Happiness. I kept repeating it over and over so I wouldn't forget it when I woke up. I feel that this title came to me because as much disappointment and heartache that happens in our lives, it’s important to find the little things that bring us joy in order to keep going. This has morphed from a memoir to a fiction story that will be due out within the next year, but I see an important companion to this and it would be a series of photographs of people. I want to do portraiture of people within the community outdoors with nature and architecture as their backdrop. During this time with them I am curious about their life experiences with mental illness, taking care of others with mental illness, or relationships they no longer have because of a mental illness that they suffer from or that their family/friend suffers from. For the polarity of this heavy topic, I want to also interview them about what they are most excited about for their future. I feel that those two emotions are allowed to cohabitate and it’s important for us all to see the hints of happiness throughout. Each participant can choose to be anonymous and the portrait can be of their side or backside profile. Once the Hints of Happiness project is completed I intend to submit this for exhibition proposals nationally and internationally.
Currently seeking Artist in Residence opportunities to create the Hints of Happiness project. If you know of any that I should check out, let me know! Email me at Hello@StarlightArtConsultancy.com
