Kimberly Flynn
'SEE ME’
Kimberly Flynn’s most recent series, See Me, illustrates the moments that tend to be missed while most go on with their day. Her work suggests the value of slowing down and seeing your surroundings. The artist’s See Me collection showcases people and locations nationally and internationally drawing on the comparison of subject matter. The series title See Me derives from the irony of the artist not being seen as she photographs her environment of those who are passing by. In addition to the artworks See Me offers a video component which will project a series of images and invites the viewer to sit down and experience the surroundings that Flynn experienced.
Kimberly Flynn’s most recent series, See Me, illustrates the moments that tend to be missed while most go on with their day. Her work suggests the value of slowing down and seeing your surroundings. Flynn realized if you watch a child they look at everything that surrounds them, they watch people walking by, walk slower, and take in their surroundings. Adults tend to have their heads down or checking their phone.
The artist’s See Me collection showcases people and locations nationally and internationally drawing on the comparison of subject matter. The series title See Me derives from the irony of the artist not being seen as she photographs her environment of those who are passing by.
In addition to the artworks, See Me offers a video component which will project a series of 27 images and invites the viewer to sit down and experience the surroundings that Flynn experienced. The symbolism of the projection of 27 images is like learning to ride a bike again, every time Flynn goes out to shoot, nervousness and self doubt sets in so she makes it a goal to take 27 images minimum, reminiscent of a roll of film from a disposable camera. Like most things when the artist just starts their creative process and stops overthinking incredible works are born.
